Bodrum Z House – LIVING ROOM

This installation doesn’t merely serve as a wall—it embodies the earth’s story.

It is as much an installation as it is a tribute to the material that forms it. With every layer pressed into place, we have created something more than a surface; it is a tactile connection between earth and space, grounding the room with its raw, organic presence. The result is not just a backdrop but a living, breathing piece of art, infused with the spirit of the earth.

In traditional architecture, rammed earth walls are monumental, carved from thick layers of soil, often reaching up to 60 cm in depth. But when tasked with bringing this ancient technique into the refined intimacy of a modern dining room—within the constraints of just 7 cm—we saw a chance to turn tradition into artistry.

This installation is not merely a wall but an expression of the land itself. With each stroke of earth, we sculpted something akin to a painting, layer upon layer, using the soil as our medium. The 2.7 cm panel you see here, delicate yet powerful, was crafted with meticulous care, a living canvas that breathes with the texture and hues of nature. Supported by an invisible metal frame, it stretches across 15 square meters, creating a fusion of earth and architecture that defies convention.

Produced in our Cappadocia workshop and transported to Bodrum, the panel’s surface tells the story of the earth’s quiet, relentless movements. We used three distinct soil compositions to form the strata, each one capturing a different facet of the landscape—its tones, its textures, its elemental soul.

We are grateful to our client, @habifmimarlik, for entrusting us with this challenging and beautiful installation.
