Cosmic Core

An installation exploring the intersection of art, science, and material experimentation, inspired by planetary core samples and produced through clay printing and rammed earth techniques.

Project Description

What is the first thing humanity does when it discovers a new planet or star? We collect soil samples to understand the unknown. Cosmic Core takes this question as its starting point, exploring the intersection of art, science, and material experimentation.

Inspired by the process of extracting planetary core samples, the installation investigates the layered structure of matter through the combined use of clay printing and rammed earth techniques. While the ancient method of rammed earth reproduces the stratified nature of planetary surfaces, clay printing allows for the articulation of delicate geological formations, bringing together traditional craftsmanship and contemporary fabrication.

The work reflects on humanity’s enduring curiosity to explore and reinterpret the worlds beneath our feet as well as those beyond our planet.

Cosmic Core was exhibited at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale as part of the Türkiye Pavilion’s exhibition “Yerebasan / Grounded,” curated by Ceren Erdem and Bilge Kalfa, and presented at the Arsenale in Venice until November 23, 2025.

The piece measures R33 × H138 cm (2025).
