Venice Architecture Biennale "İn"
An immersive earthen environment created for the Türkiye Pavilion at the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, inviting visitors to feel, hear, and sense the presence of earth.
Project Description
Designed as an interactive environment where earth can be felt and sensed, İn was realized by Mono Earth as the central installation of the Türkiye Pavilion within the exhibition “Yerebasan / Grounded.”
Developed under the curatorial concept of Ceren Erdem and Bilge Kalfa, the installation—created using soils from Cappadocia—invites visitors to immerse themselves in the presence of earth: to feel its vibrations, listen to its sounds, and sense its scent.
The structure, composed of a wooden and textile framework, becomes a protective shell through the layer of earth that envelops it. This earthen surface establishes a direct physical, sensory, and emotional connection between visitors and the material.
Following weeks of preparation and material testing in Cappadocia, the installation was produced in Venice and accompanied by a sound work. Created from recordings of different layers of soil captured by Michael Akstaller, the sound installation extends the experience beyond the visual and tactile, allowing the space to be perceived acoustically as well.
The installation was exhibited at the Arsenale in Venice as part of the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale until 23 November 2025.
