Z House - Living Room

A rammed earth wall panel conceived as a large-scale artwork, bringing the layered texture and geological memory of earth into the dining space.

Project Description

The Rammed Earth Panel at Z House reinterprets rammed earth as an architectural artwork within the interior.

While traditional rammed earth walls typically require a thickness of 50–60 cm, the spatial conditions of the dining room allowed only a very limited wall depth. To address this constraint, a custom panel system was developed, enabling the presence of earth to be introduced as a refined surface rather than a structural wall.

The installation consists of 2.7 cm thin rammed earth panels, mounted on a metal frame structure and assembled on site to form a 15 m² wall composition. Produced in our workshop in Cappadocia and transported to Bodrum, the panels were carefully installed within the nearly completed interior.

Three different earth mixtures were used to create the layered surface, allowing the natural stratification of the material to emerge across the wall. Positioned within the dining space, the panel functions as a large-scale earth artwork, bringing the geological memory of the material into the everyday rituals of the home.

Through its layered texture and quiet presence, the piece transforms the wall into a tactile landscape—introducing the depth, warmth, and natural rhythms of earth into the interior.
